People have been left disgusted at the revelation of what hides in their washing machine filter.

TikTok user @OneMinMicro got deep inside his washing machine, pulling out the filter, to see if he had dust mites living in his home.

“I promise you will be shocked at what you see next,” the TikTok user explained.

He then showed an up-close view of what he could see under the microscope – revealing worms, dust mites, and other microscopic creatures.

He said this could be the cause of unknown allergies as dust mites mostly feed on skin cells.

“After finding this, I don’t want to play microscopes anymore,” he captioned the video.

Many were grossed out about the revelation.

“This makes me want to live in a bubble. Things in my life will never be clean enough for my anxiety,” one person commented on the clip.

Some were shocked that soap and the washing machine’s temperature didn’t kill the parasites.

Another added: “There are things I need to know … this wasn’t one of them … just before bed too.”

One said: “Alright time to do a deep cleaning on my washing machine.”

Others were frustrated by the clip, claiming there were dust mites everywhere.

“Who wouldn’t have dust mites seriously we are all going to have them,” one person commented on the clip.

Another added: “House dust mites are present indoors wherever humans live. You’re making it seem otherwise.”

It comes after Perth woman Carolina McCauley, who has more than 1.1 million followers on TikTok where she shares cleaning and home organization advice, posted a video last year explaining how you should be cleaning your machine several times a year.

“Did you know your washing machine needs to be drained and cleaned every three months?” she captioned the video.

When cleaning your machine, Ms. McCauley said it was important not to forget to empty and clean the filter as it could result in your washing appliance smelling unpleasant.

“Just rinse with warm water, and give the area a good clean before you reinstall it. This will keep your machine smelling fresh,” she wrote.

The video, which has since been viewed more than 1.7 million times, got hundreds of comments from people many of whom were shocked (and a little embarrassed) that they had never cleaned their filter before.
