Energy drink manufacturer triples production capacity

Energy drink manufacturer Hell Energy originated in its native Hungary in 2006 and is now said to be one of the world's three largest energy drink brands.

In order to meet the growing demand for its energy drinks and carbonated soft drinks, the company has been investing in new equipment, including two high-speed canning lines from Krones.

Barnabás Csereklye, managing director of Hell Energy, stated that Krones' two high-speed can filling lines have been put into operation in 2018 and 2019.

“Before that, our capacity to fill cans per hour was less than 100,000 containers, which was almost insufficient to meet demand. So we decided to expand our production capacity — we more than tripled it,” Csereklye said.

The two new Krones production lines can each process 120,000 cans per hour, and both production lines are already operating at full capacity, operating in four shifts around the clock.

"High speed and automation are the keys to our ability to meet the growing demand for our products," Csereklye said.

One of the two production lines is dedicated to the production of Hell Classic energy drink 250ml slim cans, and the second one packs all other Hell energy drinks, carbonated soft drinks and XIXO brand ice tea into three different sizes of cans.

The configuration of the two new lines is the same. In addition to various inspection systems and Contiflow mixers for empty and full tanks, each production line contains a 175-head Modulfill VFS-C filling machine.

To ensure the highest level of safety for all products, all Hell Energy cans (energy drinks, iced tea, etc.) are processed in a double-layer LinaFlex pasteurizer.

Csereklye said the company pasteurizes all its beverages to ensure stability.

"We don't use preservatives, artificial sweeteners or aspartame. We only use the best natural ingredients, such as real sugar or stevia, coffee extracts and milk-and vitamins," he said.

Hell Energy relies on Variopac Pro for packaging. Grouping and palletizing are handled by a Pressant PalBloc, the system consists of a Robobox and a Pressant Universal, and can accumulate up to 580 layers per hour. SitePilot Line Diagnostics monitors the entire production line.

When investing in new equipment, Hell Energy stated that it will look for the most modern and effective technology.

"We need to deliver a large number of products, so high efficiency, low loss and excellent reliability are essential. Of course, we don't want to take shortcuts in terms of quality," Csereklye said.

"This is why we chose Krones. Our good partnership for many years is self-evident-it was already clear during the installation and commissioning stages that we made the right choice. We were and are very satisfied. Krones Definitely met our expectations."
