NUMEROUS people have just realized that they're actually making their towels stink with a common washing machine mistake.

Identifying the washing machine error is changing the way they do their laundry and keeping their towels odor-free.

Home appliance repair technician Renae shares the secret in a TikTok video, forever altering how people wash their loads.

Known on the platform as @renduh, she uses her social presence to educate viewers on techniques to extend the use of your washing machine and dryer, cool life hacks, and response videos.

In one cleaning hack video, she says that the strong stench in your towels may have something to do with the detergent you're using on your laundry and other important factors.

The appliance technician starts off the viral video by reacting to another video of a woman frustrated over the gross stench of her laundry towels and holding a bottle of fabric refresher spray.

"And my towels still smell like an elephant's," the woman in the video says before being cut off by the next video.

Renae then jumps in, saying: "I had a few of my followers tag me in your video, and I actually have a suggestion for what might be happening with your towels."

She first tells viewers that one of the issues may be related to the purchasing date of their washing machine.

"If your washing machine was purchased in the last 15 years or so, most likely it's high efficiency which means you should be using high-efficiency detergent with it," she explains.

On a positive note, she adds that you shouldn't worry too much about whether or not your detergent is high-efficiency or not because it probably is.

It's actually harder to find a laundry detergent that is NOT high-efficiency since most are made to accommodate the demanding needs of modern machines.

"High-efficiency detergent, or 'HE', is very concentrated so you only need to be using two tablespoons of it," she claims.

Though you may be skeptical to use such a little amount, as most are conditioned to use a capful or more.

Most laundry machines are programmed for cleaning with a minimal scoop.

If you're using more than the recommended amount, your machine is not rinsing out all of the product.

"If you've been using too much for too long, then you probably have a detergent buildup inside of your machine, she states.

If that's the case, the appliance professional recommends running a washing machine cleaner through your machine, like Affresh, which is $10.99 at Target.

"And also just make sure you're loading your machine somewhere between halfway and three-quarters of the way full; otherwise, they just won't get clean in general," she says as the video comes to a close.

Though the original video gained over eight million views, Renae's recent reshare video is also trending with over 70,000 likes.

Many viewers of the original video came back to watch the newer vision and shared their continued appreciation in the comment section.

"When this video first dropped it changed my laundry life forever. my mechanic clothes are getting cleaner and no more sour-smelling loads. THANK YOU," a viewer praised.

"Girl, you are saving the world…. Two tablespoons at a time!" another added.

"I turn up the volume when your videos come up so my husband can hear," another user comically shared online.
